PATENT FILING IN UKRAINE
Ukraine is the second largest contiguous country on the European continent, after the Russian Federation. Ukraine joined WIPO in 1970. Ukrpatent is the only institution in Ukraine authorized to deal with Intellectual Property (IP) matters. On 16th May 2008, Ukraine became a member of the World Trade Organization, as a result of which it has made amendments to its patent laws to make its patent filing process convenient and efficient at the global platform. The industrial sectors that account for the vast majority of commercialized patents in Ukraine are Chemicals, Biotechnology and Electronics.
There are many more potential sectors which are yet to be
explored. With the vision of the Ukrainian government for boosting patent

A patent application can be filed in Ukraine in any of the following formats in Ukrainian:

Paris Convention based national entry.

PCT National Phase based national entry.

Publication of Ukrainian patents takes place within 18 months of the priority date.
Request for examination has to be made within 36 months from the international filing date.

Payment of annuities is not required for pending patent applications in Ukraine. The first post-grant annuities must be paid within 4 months from the publication of the patent. All subsequent annuities are calculated from the filing date and must be paid before the beginning of each following year. Protection of the patent is for 20 years from the International Filing Date.
